Waste Removal
It goes without saying that keeping our building and grounds free of debris, garbage, rubbish, rodents, and insects benefits our quality of life most of all. These guidelines are important to follow towards that end.
Trash
Trash and recycling dumpsters are removed from the outside trash room on Sunday and Thursday evenings for pick up on Monday and Friday mornings by our trash pick-up company.
The Trash Chute
There is a trash-only chute on each floor for household garbage which empties into the trash collector in the outside trash room. Your trash has to fit into the chute to slide down easily into the trash compactor. For best results, put all refuse in grocery store size plastic bags.
Here are some guidelines for what NOT to put in the chute:
- NO oversized trash bags are to be stuffed into the chute. Take it down to the trash room.
- NO loose items down the chute.
- NO wood
- NO hangers
- NO furniture
- NO contractor debris
- NO large boxes or cardboard. These should be broken down, folded and recycled.
- NO unwrapped garbage or food stuffs. Place all refuse in plastic bags.
- NO grease. Don’t pour grease down your drain, either! Put grease in a disposable paper container, place in freezer until it hardens, and dispose of it with the rest of your trash which you’ve placed in a grocery store sized bag.
- NO pizza boxes or other containers with food residue. These attract vermin. Break them down in small pieces to fit in a grocery store sized bag.
Noncompliance of these guidelines will burn out our trash compactor motor and may result in higher condo fees.
Trash leftover from a move or contractor work must be disposed of by you or your contractor. Heather House is fined if demolition/renovation debris is placed in the dumpster. These fines may also result in higher condo fees. (The Environmental Protection Agency considers this type of refuse hazardous.)
You are also responsible for removal of large and small appliances. This includes window air-conditioning units and televisions. None of these items will be picked up by the Township. When purchasing new appliances or other large items, it is advisable that you arrange with the vendor to remove the replaced items.
Please contact Haddon Township’s Recycling Center at 856-854-1825 if further information is required regarding disposal of large items.
